In most cases, switching the server region resolves the issue. However, there are times when the problem is more serious. Therefore, if you are also experiencing this issue that doesn’t go away by switching the server region, you should implement the fixes covered in this article to resolve it.

Preliminary Fixes

Before troubleshooting the network, it is essential to rule out microphone and camera issues. You can do this by running the test in WebRTC Troubleshooter. In cases where microphones or cameras are malfunctioning, fix their hardware or software issues first.

Moreover, it is equally important to ensure that the problem does not lie with Discord. This can be verified by visiting the Discord Status page. If neither your hardware nor Discord’s end of the connection is the issue, you can move on with the remaining fixes.

1. Restart the Discord App and Your PC

Sometimes, all you need to do is restart something for it to work correctly again. Therefore, your first step should be to restart both the Discord app and your operating system to ensure it’s not a temporary glitch causing the error.

2. Change Date and Time

Having the correct date and time set on your computer is also essential. It may sound unlikely, but having the wrong time and date can also cause such issues. Therefore, it is vital to rule out this possibility.

3. Restart Your Router and Run the Internet Troubleshooter

To get started with this step, reboot your router and test other apps on the same connection. If this doesn’t do the trick, you should run the Windows internet troubleshooter to ensure everything running smoothly.

To run it, go to the Windows Settings app and click Update and Security. Navigate to Troubleshoot in the left-sidebar and select Additional troubleshooters. Click on the Internet Connections and click Run Troubleshooter.

4. Disable Any Active VPN Services.

Discord sends and receives voice data using the UDP protocol. If your VPN isn’t compatible with this protocol, you’re likely to face such issues while using Discord over a VPN connection.

Without getting too technical and courting yourself, you can temporarily disable the VPN to see if it solves the problem. If disabling VPN fixes the problem, change your VPN or use Discord without it. If not, continue implementing the rest of the fixes.

5. Flush the DNS Cache

All previously stored IP addresses and DNS records are cleared when you flush the DNS cache. The device will now have to find a new DNS address since all lookup information will be deleted. Fresh fetching may help establish a more stable connection with the servers, resulting in smoother communication through WebTRC. A fresh fetch is likely to resolve the problem.

Follow these steps to clean DNS cache:

Enter “cmd” in the Windows search box. Right-click the Command Prompt app and select Run as administrator. Type “ipconfig /flushdns” and hit Enter. (It is important to note that there is a space between “ipconfig” and “/flushdns”).

Restart both your PC and Discord. See if the problem has been resolved. If flushing the DNS cache fails to fix the problem, consider changing the DNS servers.

6. Change DNS Servers

An upgrade to a better DNS server results in much faster data loading. As a result, the web surfing process and data transmission become faster. Therefore, it has a fair chance of solving the problem.

Follow these steps to change DNS servers:

Open the Settings app by pressing Win + I. Go to Network & Internet. Navigate to Wi-Fi from the left-sidebar. Click on your Wi-Fi connection. Under IP settings, click Edit. Set the IP settings from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual. Switch on the IPv4 or IPv6 toggle depending on which connection your router or ISP supports. Enter 8. 8. 8. 8 for Preferred DNS and 8. 8. 4. 4 for Alternate DNS. Click Save.

Restart your internet and rerun Discord to see if the problem persists. In addition, if your router or ISP does not support IPv6, disable it as if it’s enabled; it can cause connectivity problems. Changing DNS servers often do the trick, but if that doesn’t work, try turning off High Packet Priority QoS settings in Discord.

7. Disable QoS High Packet Priority

QoS High Packet Priority is one of Discord’s features that signals routers to treat the app’s packets as a high priority. Often this helps speed up transmission on Discord, improving the user experience. However, enabling this option will have the opposite effect if your internet connection is too slow.

Even the Discord app warns you about this feature causing issues with your router, right below where you turn it on. Therefore, it’s worth turning it off. To do so, follow these steps:

On Discord, click on User Settings (gear icon) in the bottom-left corner. Navigate to Voice & Video under App Settings. Locate the Quality of Service settings. Disable the toggle for “Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority. "

If disabling QoS does not work, either whitelist Discord in Windows Firewall or temporarily disable Windows Firewall.

8. Whitelist Discord in Windows Firewall

Whitelisting Discord in the Windows Firewall eliminates the possibility of Firewall blocking or restricting Discord.

To whitelist it, head over to the Windows search bar and type “Allow an app through Windows firewall.”

By clicking on the settings location, you will be taken directly to the list of allowed apps in the Windows Firewall in Control Panel. Click on Change settings first to enable making changes. Choose Discord in the list and check the boxes next to it for both Private and Public.

If it’s not already there, click on Allow another app and hit Browse. Locate the Discord path (in most cases, it will be C:/Users//AppData/Local/Discord), and by doing so, you will add Discord to the app list. Check the boxes for both Private and Public after adding.

As a last resort, you can temporarily turn off Windows Firewall if whitelisting Discord fails to resolve the issue.

Make Discord Functional Again

You’ll likely be able to get Discord back on track by following the steps in the list. If all else fails, consider updating, resetting, or uninstalling Discord. Moreover, if you’re experiencing “RTC Connecting” stuck on the Discord web client, then you should rule out browser issues as well as implement the fixes outlined here.

Emojis and stickers add soul to our conversations. Discord also lets you add and use stickers in your chats like other apps. Try them out if you haven’t already.
